21. When the Tears

When the Tears Have All Run Out – This was a painful, cathartic song for me.  Written just after one of the most trying times in my life.  Limping away with my tail between my legs, failure and loss.  My overwhelming thought was I never want to go through this again.  Lord, can I learn my lesson.  Please?  The melody is perhaps a little too sweet.  The message, though, is very dear to my heart.

Fallen down,
Contend for the rule of me,
Ashamed of the fool of me,
Offering laid,
Place the plans so carefully laid.

Broken dreams,
Bundled tightly have turned to stone,
So heavy on my own,
To bear,
And now the seams have begun to tear.

And my heart is pressed,
With feeble fears and doubts,
That I’ll soon forget as the tears have all run out.

Holding on,
Grasping to clutch Your hand,
Lost and afraid to stand,
Alone,
Feel such grace I’ve never known.

Like the soggy ground that once was parched with drought,
Memories fade when the tears have all run out.

The image in the mirror of my heart is wrought with fear,
Please help me Lord to keep that image clear.

Start again,
So different than before,
Your wisdom to explore,
The other side,
See Your glory magnified.

Like the springtime rain that spawns the summer sprouts,
Hope to grow now that the tears have all run out.
