Crushed Beneath Your Love – One of the first songs I ever wrote. It is a prayer of contrition and renewal. I performed this song live for the first time during an offertory at church. That performance demonstrated the “Murphy’s Law” principle better than anything I have ever witnessed. I had arranged to play acoustic guitar and sing to tape of my own making with some strings and bass. Not only did the tape not play, the vocal microphone and guitar mic did not work. So I was forced to sing the song, guitar and voice, without amplification and it turned out so well, that every time I have performed the song, I have done it the same way. This recorded version of course is the way I wanted to do it the first time.
I come before You now,
With trembling hands,
Overwhelmed to face the claims,
Of Your commands,
For you are God,
And I am small,
In awe of you.
I bring before You now,
A softened heart,
So prone to mask Your love,
And play the part,
With feeble words,
And unworthy lips,
I call to You.
Chorus:
Mold me now and make me,
In Your potter’s gentle hands,
A pure and honored vessel for a king,
Gushing forth in praises,
As I’m crushed beneath Your love,
With a sacrifice that costs me everything.
As you look inside my life,
Expose the fear,
That keeps my heart away,
From drawing near,
A Father’s love,
A wayward son,
Who’s coming home.
Search me now O’ God,
Accept my praise,
Sift my life of sin,
And try my ways,
For freedom’s found,
In a heart that’s lost,
Inside of You.
